3 Guitar Finger Exercises So Simple You Can Do Them While Watching TV

These simple exercises are designed to help you improve your finger dexterity and reach, allowing you to play more complex guitar pieces with ease. And the best part is, you can do these exercises anywhere, anytime, even while enjoying your favorite TV show!

Exercise 1: 2 Finger Workout

The first exercise requires just 2 fingers! It’s so easy to memorize, and is dead simple. A lot of people start with more complicated exercises like the “spider” (or whatever you call it) but I find that isn’t as effective as focusing on 2 fingers at a time. This is excellent if your ring finger seems to not want to listen to your brain, as we can focus on switching between it, and each of your other fingers separately.

Exercise 2: Interval Training

The second exercise involves a shape called the power chord. It is very useful in its own right, but we’ll be using it to improve your hand position and overall technique. It also improves your picking, so this one’s a double-whammy. Once again the amount of notes is very limited, so you’ll be able to focus on what matters.

Exercise 3: Hammer-on and Pull-off Workout

This last one is still very simple to remember (that’s the point of these! To work your fingers, not your brain) but is quite the workout for your fingers. You will place a finger down, then hammer on to the next, and so on. Then reverse it with pulloffs. It’s incredibly effective and something that even advanced players should do to improve their technique.

These three guitar finger exercises are easy to learn and can be practiced while watching TV. Incorporating these exercises into your regular guitar practice routine will help you improve your finger strength and dexterity, making it easier to play more complex guitar pieces. As you become more comfortable with these exercises, you can add variations and make them more challenging to further develop your skills. So why not start now and give your fingers the workout they need to become a better guitarist!
