A Guitar Warm Up For Beginners
In this easy guitar tutorial for beginners, we’ll go over the best warmup exercise that’ll help you develop CONTROL and DEXTERITY in your chord-switching hand.
This easy finger independence exercise takes 1 or 2 minutes to do, and if you do it daily you will see huge improvements in your finger speed and experience faster chord changes!
It all revolves around finding a comfortable spot on the fretboard, where you can place your fingers down in a row. We then move one finger over, and leave the rest touching the strings WITHOUT pressing them down.
That’s the key!
You want to only press with one finger while the rest just touch the string – this will mess with your brain at first, but after some practice you’ll quickly develop insane amounts of dexterity in your fingers.
I’ve seen a lot of teachers talking about physically stretching your fingers which, according to my physiotherapist, is really bad for your hands in the long-run.
Instead of potentially damaging your tendons, I discovered this exercise, which was a huge turning point for me, and while it’s a little unorthodox, it provided me with huge results, so I figured it would be worthwhile to share with you!
