The lesson begins with the chord shapes. The verse uses three easy basic chords: G C D. It’s the same simple progression over and over. We work out the switches and we practice it using downstrokes only. Then we add the strumming pattern.

This song uses the most common strumming pattern ever. We break it down, count it out and learn how to feel it to properly before applying it to our simple three chord progression.

Next, we learn the chorus which uses one more chord shape, E minor. Combined with G, C and D, this makes the most common chord progression ever. You will find this four chord combo in a million songs! We practice the chord switching and then we add the strumming pattern.

The only part we have left to learn is the bridge. This part is very similar to the chorus. We figure it out, practice it, and then we put the entire song together.
