Why Should You Learn To Play Guitar?

Why You Should Learn To Play Guitar!

Chances are, you’re here for a reason: to learn how to play the guitar. Since you’re already here, we’re sure that you are already aware of some of its benefits. We’re here right now to help you every step of the way and to give you some additional reasons as to why you should give this amazing instrument your time of day.

#1 – Guitar has stood the test of time

The guitar is an ancient instrument whose predecessors in history can be traced back to over 4000 years. It has been a longstanding part of Egyptian, European, and American culture. Its influence on modern culture and unceasing prominence tell us that it’s here to stay and won’t go out of style anytime soon.

#2 – It doesn’t take much to get started

Even as a beginner, you’ll still be able to play some tunes on the guitar that will actually sound like – gasp! – the tunes they are supposed to sound like. Most of my students play a simple song during their first lesson. With guitar, if you are willing to do some work, practicing 15 minutes a day, you’ll quickly reach the point where you’ll sound like you can really play! It just takes knowing a few chords and strumming patterns and you’ll be on your way.

#3 – It’s a great songwriting tool

Most songwriters use the guitar as their writing instrument for a reason. It’s relatively simple to make up your own songs by playing some chords and humming an accompanying melody even if you are a beginner.

#4 – The guitar is one of the most versatile instruments

The guitar has been popular for quite some time, as we already mentioned, so it’s well-explored territory. This means that there are endless possibilities to discover new kinds of things you can play on the guitar – whether it’s classical, flamenco, jazz, folk, rock, or pop music.

#5 – Guitar technique transfers over to most other stringed instruments

Guitar is a great starting point if you feel like branching out and learning other string instruments like the bass guitar, the ukulele, the mandolin, the banjo, and many others. Some aspects of the guitar even transfer over to piano quite well.

#6 – Guitar is cool

Guitar has been cool for a long time and will continue to be for quite some time. It can make you the life of the party – people are naturally drawn to its sound and fellow musicians can easily jam along to it. It can mean having ambitions to be a rock star and to escape your everyday life. It can mean meeting new people and making new friends. It can help you grab someone’s attention and be the catalyst for new relationships. With a guitar, you also have the ability to travel the world doing the thing you love, although travelling with your guitar can sometimes be a real pain in the backside.

#7 – Playing guitar helps you become a better you

The guitar is so versatile and only YOU will sound like, well… you when you play it. You’ll start developing your own style and identity as you make playing a part of your life. You’ll be able to express yourself just as you are. And, eventually, you’ll start calling yourself a guitarist – a good one, at that.
