Welcome back to Day 6 of 30 Days of Guitar! Last time we learned Eleanor Rigby for beginners – today we’re going to discuss the chord chart (also known as TAB, chords & lyrics) and how to count along to and play the entire song. I also have some tips for memorizing songs and a strumming pattern that will help you feel the beat.

Reading a chord chart on guitar

The chord chart will show you the chord progression of the song. Most chord charts will also show you the lyrics of the song. Learning these lyrics will help you remember the song and make it easier to play the chords. To play the song, you’ll need to count along with the beat of the song. Counting along will help you stay on time with the chords.

How to memorize songs on guitar easily

Memorizing songs can be tricky, but there are a few things you can do to make it easier. Start with the chorus, since it’s usually the most memorable part of the song and build from there. Break the song into sections and add a few details of the chords each time. Practice the song over and over until you’ve got it down.

Feeling the beat and improving your strumming rhythm

To make the song feel “fuller”, we can add a strumming pattern. Strumming patterns are typically made up of two notes—a downstroke and an upstroke. Try strumming a downstroke on the first beat of each measure and an upstroke on the third beat. This will give the song a nice rhythm and add some life to it
