Fingerpicking Guitar the Easy Way: Learn a Fun 3-Chord Song

Welcome back to 30 Days of Guitar! Today I want to show you the easiest fingerpicking song on guitar. Period. This easy 3 chord song, when combined with this easy fingerstyle pattern that works on any song, is a ton of fun and will come together in no time!

Fingerstyle basics

Use your thumb to play the bass (lowest) notes. Your index, middle, and ring fingers will play the higher pitched notes. Here we are playing the G, C and D chords.

You’ll need to change which strings your Thumb plucks, depending on the chord. For G, your thumb plucks the low E string, for C it’s the A (5th) string, and for D it’s the 4th (D) string.

Once we’ve practiced our simple fingerstyle pattern, we can test it out with a Leaving on a Jet Plane easy fingerstyle play-along.
